Sleep and eat in Rome Feb 17

Near Navona square, in the centre of Rome, there’s a friendly bed and breakfast that I found delightful: La Danesina B&B.

They have few rooms, I think only 3, and the atmosphere is really warm and comfortable. Obviously, it also is very central.

The b&b owners also have the restaurant La Danesina, that is situated in the same building. I think  this is a quality guarantee: it’s not easy for a touristic business to survive in the centre of Rome, because of the competitors, just imagine that they have 2 businesses which both have success…

B&b on “The queen road” Feb 16

Appia teritur regina longarum viarum

That’s how’s called the Appian way, one of the most important Roman roads, that connected Rome to Brindisi, in Apulia (south of Italy).
The Roman army’s mil
itary success depended on the use of this type of ways and Appian way was used for military supplies for many years since the mid 4th century BC and it remained an important connection to the southern Italy for centuries.

Now the Appian way has many fascinating remains near Rome, very interesting for the tourists that want to discover a unique part of the eternal city: you can follow the way in the country just outside the city, where the road is flanked by pine trees and cypresses and find out some of the earliest Christian cemeteries like San Callisto’s and San Sebastiano’s catacombs.
But the most interesting part of Appian way is the one which goes from the tomb of Cecilia Metella to Casal Ro
tondo, near 5 km of marble ruins and statues covered by grass: a sight that have inspired poets like Goethe, Byron of D’Annunzio.

Stay close to Appian way means have a quiet holiday in a very silent place, being well connected to the centre of the city.
Daniel’s Inn is a bed and breakfast placed 100 metres far from the Colli Albani Metro A station, two steps aw
ay the new Appian way.
Born in 2007, Daniel’s Inn is a nice accommodation in Rome with comfortable and fully equipped rooms, either with or without bathroom.

Close to the city, far from the noise: Appian way is one of the best place to enjoy Rome.

Week end for everyone’s tastes Feb 06

How to plan a week end in a foreign Country?
You have to choose the destination, plan the activities and itineraries and, above all, come to an agreement with all of your friends and their preferences…

If you like nature you should try out this bed and breakfast in Emilia Romagna, that is part of an organically-operated farm complex.
The B&B Dei Paduli is situated in a 19th-century farm house that was recently remodeled in compliance with innovative ecological construction principles.

If you like art and culture, from there you would visit the many cultural points of interest on the Po Plain, and in the stretch of Apennines running between Reggio and Modena, including the residences of the region’s ruling noble families.

Moreover, if you like cars, you could have a tour of the Ferrari Gallery in nearby Maranello.

Italian Opera Feb 05

Opera is an art form in which singers and musicians perform a dramatic work (called an opera) which combines a text (called a libretto) and a musical score.
Opera was born in Italy around the year 1600 and Italian opera has continued to play a dominant role in the history of the form until the present day. The word opera means “work” in Italian (it is the plural of Latin opus meaning “work” or “labour”) suggesting that it combines the arts of solo and choral singing, declamation, acting and dancing in a staged spectacle.

Italian opera is both the art of opera in Italy and opera in the Italian language.
Many famous operas in Italian were written by foreign composers, including Handel, Gluck and Mozart. Works by native Italian composers of the 19th and early 20th centuries, such as Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini, are amongst the most famous operas ever written and today are performed in opera houses across the world.

Dafne by Jacopo Peri was the earliest composition considered opera, as understood today. It was written around 1597, largely under the inspiration of an elite circle of literate Florentine humanists who gathered as the “Camerata de’ Bardi”.

Have you ever watched Opera? Come in Italy and experience it!
If you choose the Capitol, I advice you the accommodation: the Opera street bed and breakfast.
The b&b has thematic rooms (like Tosca room or Traviata room) and overlooks the Opera Theatre of Rome: perfect!

Rossini harmony Feb 02

Without music, life would be a mistake.
Friedrich W. Nietszche

Let’s talk about an undervalued composer
Not “undervalued” in the true sense of the word, but in the collective imagination he’s not the first name that comes to mind.

Gioacchino Antonio Rossini had been the most popular opera composer in history, at least until his retirement in 1829.
Between 1815 and 1823 he produced 20 operas, but the most famous one has been the Barber of Seville. This opera has been the first Italian opera introduced in the USA.

Rossini lived in many cities, he was born in Pesaro, into a family of musicians, than his mother took him to Bologna. In adult age, after living in Florence, he settled in Paris.

If you want to visit his tomb you have to come in Florence, to the Basilica di Santa Croce,  were his remains were moved after his death.
To keep the point, you can accommodate at Rossini Harmony Bed and Breakfast, in the centre of Florence.

Valentine’s day in Verona Jan 23

As you well know, Verona is the birth place of Romeo and Juliet.
If you want to spend a romantic Valentine’s day I think that Verona would be a nice destination for you and your partner.

The so called “lovers’ city” will offer you a particular atmosphere, perfect for such an occasion.
I’m inquiring about going there and I found a special place, a B&B that sounds really interesting and suitable for the mood I want to create for me and my boyfriend.

The name of the bed and breakfast is “Casa e natura”, on the website you will know the owners, a young family full of romanticism.
I really was fascinated by the beauty of the rooms and by their attention to the bio way of life: all the things you will come in contact with will strictly be natural and biological.

Moreover, they offer a bicycle to each guest… naturally romantic!

Accommodation in Sicily: a dialogue with history Dec 15

Avoiding the typical Italian clichè of mandolino, pizza and mafia, discover the real Italy can be a surprising experience. Go to Sicily and its capital Palermo is indeed the best way to debunk the myth of a backward-looking region, characterized only by waste of public money and corruption.

The fascinating beach of Mondello, the open air market of Vucciria, the historic theatres of Politeama and Teatro Massimo are only the most foregone places to see.
Palermo hides many and many things to discover and historical wonders to go visiting: there’s only to get carried away form the atmosphere of a 3000 year old city.

History is everywhere: in the little alleys of the centre or in the large main roads like Vittorio Emanuele or Maqueda street, in the baroque cathedrals or in the medieval churches, in the fusion cuisine or in its wonderful beaches, and even in the eyes of the old people.

The best way to see Palermo and feel the history is to make the most of the warm climate and go around on foot in the centre, cause the main monuments can really easily be reached with a nice walk.
Choosing a central accommodation is required, if the place is in a perfect Sicilian baroque style is great.

That’s why I write about Palazzo Amari Bajardi, a bed and breakfast in the very centre of the city, 500 mt away form the Central Station and a stone’s throw from Vucciria market and via Maqueda.
There are two suites, furnished with historical furnishing and equipped with all the comforts: private bathroom decorated with valuable maiolicas, tv, minibar, and every facilities.

Every morning a big continental breakfast with Sicilian specialties is served in the dining room: that’s the right way to start a Palermo city tour!

Cheap accommodation in Rome Dec 12

Travel around the world and feeling at home. It’s somehow the dream of every traveller that for the first time jump in a new city, but is difficult: hotels and bed and breakfast are often crowded and the owners are not able to manage many people and be at the same time gentle and nice.

That’s why when you find a place where this happens, when you really feel like you’re sleeping in your bed, you want the other to know it.
Domus Camere is a little bed and breakfast in Rome, near to the 13th exit of Grande Raccordo Anulare (the big road that surrounds Rome).

Not in the centre, but easy reachable by car and by public means, Domus Camere is a recent hotel with clean and completely furnished rooms. The atmosphere is particular, thanks to the interiors refined with tuff, the typical Roman stone.
Family run, Domus Camere will welcome you with friendliness and will make your stay in Rome better than it could be.
